Forces & Motion

Forces & Motion

Hello students! I hope you all enjoy using this blog and using the web to learn more on forces and motion. Now remember, all of you must individually turn in a paper with your answers to the questions I ask you below. However, you ARE allowed to work TOGETHER! Remember to use the worksheet we worked on yesterday to help you answer some of the questions. I want well thought-out answers explained in the terms we learned in class. Now let's begin..

1.) What does the first marble lose, and why does it lose this?
2.) The momentum is transferred when the second marble is introduced, but what stops them so quickly?
3.) What is the third marble? (Hint: it helped cause a greater force on the other marbles.)

4.) What happens to the forces as the skydiver falls through the air?
5.) What pulls the skydiver immediately to the ground?
6.) What does it mean when forces are balanced?

7.) Give another example of gravity.
8.) Give another example of magnetism.

That concludes the blog assignment! I hope you all have a piece of paper with YOUR individual answers on it. Please turn them into me before you leave class today! If you have any other questions, please bring them tomorrow to class; this is when we will be wrapping up forces and motion. Also, know your worksheet on forces and motion that we worked on yesterday in class and the examples in this blog..there may or may not be a pop quiz tomorrow..hint hint.

Welcome to Ms. Davis' Class Blog

Before I begin to explain what this blog will be about, I would first like to introduce myself...  I enjoy spending my free time with family and friends and trying new things, whether it is a new recipe, movie, restaurant, or even just a new card game. I recently learned how to play euchre and now I am obsessed with it! Also, when I have the chance, I love playing solitaire and suduko games ... they keep my brain active. As you all should know, I am a science teacher, which means I should enjoy learning new and interesting topics in that field, which I do. A site that I recommend to everyone - one that has a large number of great and factual videos is TED (this is a site that does NOT only relate to science videos, but numerous other videos on just about every possible topic).

I would now like to begin by telling you that this blog will consist of some of the favorite topics of scientific study to which I have been introduced. In this first blog post, I would like to begin with something that perhaps not many people consider, and yet it is the largest part of the Earth around us ... that is, the hidden world that is found underwater! This is a fascinating topic to me, so I hope you all enjoy it, as well!

To get an idea of what you know (or don't know) of this hidden world underwater, I want to ask a few questions - then I will begin giving you some great information on the area. OK? Let's "dive in!"
1.) What types of life do you think are found in this "hidden" world underwater?
2.) Why do you think so much of the oceans are unexplored?

Here is my favorite video I have found on the topic of ocean exploration and the mysteries of the underwater world: Robert Ballard on exploring the oceans
1.) What did you find most interesting in this video?
2.) Name something that you did not know before watching this video.

After watching the video, read more on this site and see what else you may find: Exploring the deep ocean floor: Hot springs and strange creatures

Exploring the ocean floor - dsc.discovery.com

1.) What similarities did you find in the video and this website?
2.) What is something NEW you learned from this website only?

After watching the video and reading more on the website, I hope the material sparked a new interest for you and perhaps gave you the urge to learn more on this topic. If you have any more questions, please do some personal research and bring what you find into class. The blog next week will cover the mystery of fossils...
